ISWB946 replied to your pm. a Dobyns, is not a Rainshadow. Make sure you get one that will handle the baits, or else you get worn out fast.
Ive explained this to others but swimbait rods are expensive because the blanks are spendy to begin with. Long blank, lots of material, all graphite. Anytime you are asking a blank to do what a swimbait blank will do (in your case throwing lures to 6 oz without getting whooped in 5 minutes), it s expensive. Think about a live bait rod, or a crappie jig rod, or a pig and jig rod. You arent really asking the blank to do much and therefor those blanks are cheap. But a blank that will do dynamic things the best in its class is going to be spendy because its a performance item.
The last thing you want to scrimp on is your big fish swimbait rod. All the countless hours you will log not getting bit, you want a kick ass rig, not one that will tire you out so you wont fish hard, or maybe you take trips off because its hard work. The right gear really helps make putting those hours in more comfortable. Comfort and performance are Key. If you get a custom for $250 and it doesnt perform or a Dobyns, you will wish you had the right blank. JMO
Before id buy a bonyns for $250 id buy an Okuma guide select swimbait rod for $109.99 they make a blank for 3-8. But none are as badass as the rainshadow.
