Any builder worth their salt should be able to get those varmac seats off for you. They should either heat and twist off (not likely but if your lucky), or will need to be cut off. There are no guarantees that you wont do some damage to the blanks. I would use a hacksaw and cut around the seat in a spiral fashion a little at a time, its a bitch. Once you cut through the blank you use a flat screw driver to pry it up, and pliers to unravel it. If you do it like this you have good control and can fairly easily, but with some time, be able to keep the blade away from the blank. Could try a dremel but be very careful, eye protection, put it in a vice and cut in a staight line very shallow just enough to get through the seat, do two staight lines at 180 degree from each other, hopefully you could then fit a flat screwdriver in and pry the pieces apart.

I did one of those about a year ago on a live bait Marlin stick. I had to use a diamond blade Dremel and it took some precision to cut it off without damaging the blank. The build up under it with old masking tape wouldn't stop a butter knife so if it gets overcut the blank will get damaged, no doubt. I spiral-cut it very, very carefully. Just check around, I'm sure someone up there in one of the shops has done one (or several) before. I'd probably make sure and have someone do it that has done one before. It is a bit tricky. Randy.
