| Red LOST spiral
Well I played around with the fabric moire some more. This one gets an Accurate B2-870 - Batson RCJB84H 7' 30-60# blank (sticker supplied says 30-80#, catalog and website say 30-60#)
- Fuji PSSLD Seat - Silver vein powdercoat
- Dacron cord grips over sheet neoprene, front slightly triangulated for gripping. Water based Varathane spar finish
- Turned aluminum and silver vein powdercoated winding check
- Tip to stripper, BMNAT 12, BNLGH 10/16/20/20/20, lowered and ovaled 12 PacBay RB, lowered 25 PacBay RB. All silver vein powdercoated
- C&C embroidery thread underwrap, Tex69 poly black overwrap, topped with C&C black and silver top wrap
- Guide reveals are silver leaf, overlaid with red and black fabric
- UHMW PE spiral rubrail
Should get to the load testing on this one in the next few days.

Shouldn't there be at least one guide set off to the side to keep the line off of the blank. It sure looks like it will rub to me.

And BTW, I could have used guides but using only one would be the worst solution. It also means I would be hardcoded into a transition on a single side. And only with a lot of work with a pair of guides would you get the blank clearance as low as I get with that rail (.02") across all loadings.
The rail has been working pretty darn good for me. My next choice would be, not a pair of guides, but a pair of rings. The rail is simpler and completely corrosion proof tho, and I've noticed no negatives from using it.

Where do you get the rub rail? Is it really plastic?

Thanks Jason and John,,,,
Jason,,,, actually pretty sedate for me. I tried reveals using mirror mylar and vinyl, but the mirror overpowered the moire. Matte silver leaf works pretty well tho.
John,,,, I picked up a ton of 200# dacron cord, so I keep using it. Actually used two different cords in this (one hollow and one not) so it is ribbed and has more traction.
I don't have a Mary to do the pretty thread work, and I just don't enjoy doing that myself. One of the reasons I do the powdercoat is that I get the bling without going that path.

Originally Posted by PoolMan Where do you get the rub rail? Is it really plastic? | UHMW PE stands for Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene. Do a google on it and read up on the characteristics. Neat stuff. I've used it to face fences on my woodworking equipment for years.
I use a peel-n-stick, because the stuff is pretty trying to use DIY adhesives with (it is a low energy surface).
I picked up some rolls from CS Hyde last year and thus skip that hassle. I slice it to 3/16" width and chamfer the corner edges with a scraper. That leaves the profile a little bit like a guitar fret. I then spiral it on with a 1/2" gap. which minimizes the material build up and still gives me blank clearance over the range of bending.
The black UHMW is better than the clear for UV exposure. It also looks better I think. Of the CS Hyde choices in this application, contrary to their descriptions, I have found their rubber based adhesive to hold on better than their high bond acrylic. Not that I have had either loosen, but it is just something I noted in testing,,, even when waiting a week and with exposure to water, which is supposed to improve the acrylic's grip.
If I ever had to, I could replace the whole thing in minutes. I wrap the ends with 1/2" wide self-fusing silicone tape, BTW. A holdover from when I started using the rail as an experiment. It all works well enough that I just kept it that way.
