Acid wraping a factory rod.

Hi I have a rod I 8' 10-20 pound kencor inshore rod that I took albacore fishing this weekend. The rod wasn't built on the spine so it wants to turn in my hands under heavy load. I was thinking of I re- wrapping it acid style. I was wondering if I could keep the same guide spacing.

Thanks, Patrick

You could keep the same guide spacing just rewrap the stripper guide 180 and add a bumper guide between the stripper and the second guide this could be done if you don't have a reel seat or if you are planning on removing the reel seat and wrap the rod deckhand style bumper style would be the easiest way all you have to do is wrap to guides. double check your rod most conventional rods tend to try to twist when under heavy load or when fish runs to the sides here a pic with a bumper style

The spine has some influence but not that much. Think of it as a fine tuning knob. The load on the rod and the lever action of the guides will overwhelm the effect of the spine.
What you are seeing is a conventional rod being torqued because of the load. The spine location will affect it a little, but only a little.
You could use the same positions and even the same guides for a quick, crude rebuild. The line path and loading will be a roll of the dice tho. If you are very lucky you have a deckhand style grip and you could go that route.
If you have a regular seat, however, I don't see what you are saving, since you will have to rewrap most of the guides anyway. In that case you may as well rebuild it properly and tune the guide sizing and layout to the spiral method you want.

bumper guides are set usually at 90 or where the line touches the blank when the rod is under load.
