The spine has some influence but not that much. Think of it as a fine tuning knob. The load on the rod and the lever action of the guides will overwhelm the effect of the spine.
What you are seeing is a conventional rod being torqued because of the load. The spine location will affect it a little, but only a little.
You could use the same positions and even the same guides for a quick, crude rebuild. The line path and loading will be a roll of the dice tho. If you are very lucky you have a deckhand style grip and you could go that route.
If you have a regular seat, however, I don't see what you are saving, since you will have to rewrap most of the guides anyway. In that case you may as well rebuild it properly and tune the guide sizing and layout to the spiral method you want.
