My new toy

I just got my Shikari F840 custom wrap rod back from Fisherman's Depot in Bellflower. I was very please with the workmanship. This was the first custom rod I had wrapped by Moon, and all I can say is wow. I like my rods plain and simply and usually get them wrapped in black. This will be my crappie jig rod. Can't wait for trout season, but in the meantime I'll be using it for the panfish.

I got to give credit where it's due, and Moon of Fisherman's Depot does excellent work. Thanks Moon for rushing my order.

Looks like it'll make a fishing machine. Gotta be happy with a good rod!

There were other rods at his shop and they were amazing. They were just too fancy for me since I like my rods plain and simple.

It was an eight footer with medium action. The combo in the picture is super light. Moon charge me a little over a hundred, but his workmanship is well worth it in my opinion. Custom rods are just like cars, the more options you want the higher the cost usually.

thats a nice little stick, and just over a hundred for a tight little custom like that is a great deal. Sure the components on that kind of rod are pretty inexpensive but considering the time spent, warranty issues, etc, thats a very good deal. Trout power worm and split shot on that will be deadly. I use about a 1.5" piece, kills em'

$100 ish? Sounds like a real good deal. I didn't think any hand wrapped rod, especially around expensive CA areas, was in that range.

Total cost for the rod was over $200. $100 was for labor. I bought the shikari blanks and the titanium guides several months back and it cost me a pretty penny.

I wish the total cost for the rod was a $100, didn't mean to mislead you guys. By the way, fished the rod today and was very please. It loads up really nice.

I have always been impressed with Moon's work. He is just up the street so I stop in often just to see what he is up too. He has a nice shop and treats people fair. If you are looking for tackle in the Bellflower area, he is the guy to see.

That sounds more like it Johnny. I was baffled that a quality guy like Moon would do the whole sha-bang for a hundy, i wouldnt.

Time spent on thread work, several layers of flex coat, building the handle, trying to make a profit. Even just a hundy for the labor is fair. Life is expensive these days. Quality isnt cheap.

Every fish you catch on it brings the cost per fish down. Nice rod, very fair deal, thats a sweet panfish rod.
