I'm doing my first re-wrap for a buddy of mine. The blank has seen better days. What are your opinions on flex coating the blank in between the guides? I would think this would add unnecessary weight to the blank, and in turn slow the action. Any advice would be appreciated, THANKS!
Clean the blank up, sand with fine wet/dry emery cloth...400-600, then coat it with Permagloss. Thin coat, work real quick as the stuff starts to set pretty quick.
I recently completed a rewrap and re coated the entire rod prior to doing any wrapping. The product I used was Classic Rod Coat rod finish. I completely stripped it down and sanded it like Lou said. I left the handle area alone. The rod wont look so nice after the sanding but after you hit it with the coating it will come alive again.
Its hard to do it while its sitting on a wrapping jig. What i did was hang it upside down from the grip end. Then paint that stuff on quickly and let it hang dry. I used a wider hobby brush for this too. Make sure you pull out all the loose bristles.
