Cord Grip Weave

I put a pic up of the one writing with a weave already, but this one I like better so far. Was going for a random weave by putting a bunch of short cord lengths in a box in a certain ratio of colors, and then pulling one out at random as I went along and felt the need.

Still need to trim the rearrange, pack, and trim on the front. Not looking for straight lines really. As I said, somewhat random.

EPDM underlayment on the rear, and Neoprene + EPDM on the front. All cord is 200# Dacron fishing line. Will get well doused with Varathane Diamond Spar, which will darken it a bit so the greens match better.

This is that 30-80 Kencore Z'bra blank I got at the Show. Well,,, it's different

That's crazy looking! It looks like a rod that the Joker would fish. I can't wait to see the finished product.

Way to go!

Are you using the EPDM in sheets and wrapping the rod with it?

In sheets, and not the sponge stuff. I cut it into strips and spiral it on, with Goop Marine as the adhesive. Hose clamps at each end keep it tight while waiting on the adhesive to set.

All the cord on there is Dacron 200# fishing line. All hollow core, which makes it a bit nastier to work with. It is all mill ends I picked up last year, so I just used what I had.

......

Obviously the guides are going to get the same powdercoat treatment that the other hardware has. Anf perhaps som reel parts as well. Still thinking to marble all the guide wraps as per those test marbles. Might need to modify the marbling style to be more like the grips tho? Sparse and somewhat linear. I'm not sure the 'organic' style I was practicing on works in the overall scheme (?).
