Try a heat gun - it can be a sink or swim proposition - you have to put enough heat to break down the epoxy, but not enough to damage the rod

I usually just spiral-cut the seat off with a Dremel. Randy.

i learned this from moon the other day, take a hammer and a flat head screwdriver and carefully chip away at the old graphite reel seat without damaging the blnk works like a charm and is really easy to do

Dremel tool. Make two cuts, one on each side. One all the way through, and one just a relief cut. Insert a screwdriver into the cut that is all the way through the seat and give it a twist. Some heat might be needed to soften the adhesive, and be careful not to nick the blank.

I think we covered this one before but......I'm losing my mind as I get really close to 50..

Heres what I have done over the years..If you just want the seat off and don't care if you save it or not...Dremel or similar power tool like Randy mentioned works great...I have had success on aluminum seats.. I clamp the seat in my vise wrapped in a towel or anything that will cushion the seat. Then use a propane torch very carefully and heat the seat as even as possible then use a twisting motion as I continue to add heat until the seat starts to move..Once it starts to move your home free..Most Of the time. Becareful not to start a nice fire..

I have found the if the seat had alot of bushing build up under it I would be successful..If the seat is a tight fit to the blank...Not so much..

If possible, you can put the seat in boiling water (cover rod & seat with plastic bag first) for a few minutes to soften the epoxy & start twisting. I know it works with fly rods...

I've always used boiling water. For most of the blanks I strip & re-build, a dremel is pretty much out of the question. But if you have a heavy glass blank I would imagine that would be the way to go.
