Elliemays 700L rod build

Julie wanted a play by play on her new rod. So I thought I might as well make it a "How to" for those just getting into rod building.

Sorry for the picture quaility

First off a picutre of the rod label..700L

Heres a pic of the reel seat installed. I ruff sanded the blank first. I used a Fuji HD22 which fit almost perfectly. really minimal build up to make it fit nice and snug. I applied some rod bond to the area and slid the seat on down..

Next on the list is the cork tape. I made the foregrip 8 inches with two layers of cork. The should fit Julies hands just about right. The rear grip is 12 iches.. One layer of cork at the rear.

Now on to the Xwrap. I sprayed the cork with contact cement to keep the grip from sliding and to help keep the Xwrap in alignment while I'm shrinking it down.

Heres how the ramp starts out..Just a piece of Hypalon or Eva is all you need. I used some rod bond on this as well since I had some left over from the reel seat install.

Next up will be how to conture the the ramp for that custom flush fit. Then I'll try and do a step by step on the marbling process..

Until Next week!
