Truline Octagon - What the cork to do?

I'm getting back into socal fishing after about a forty-something year hiatus so I've been digging out my old stuff from the dark recesses of the garage. And, surprise!. I found my old Trueline Dynamo octagon. Looks real good too, except where the damn rats gnawed pieces of cork off the handle. Is there anybody out there who knows anybody that can repair the cork without cutting off the handle, butt, etc.? I know it's a BIG hassle but the rod is really nice otherwise. Thanks for your help! I can fix it for you. It'll look like a brand new rod. Just let me know if you want it to look like a Calstar or Seeker.

That cork grip is pretty much shot! Even if you tried to fill it in with a cork dust and epoxy filler, it wouldn't turn out the same as original. Your best bet is to strip off the old cork grip and make a new one, either hypalon/EVA or cork tape. It would even look cool with a cord grip.

Or you could let Jose make it look just like a new Seeker or Calstar!

! Hopefully I can eventually get one or another eventually! Maybe another paycheck or two! What reels should I pair with those rods?

I found a site that sells all kinds of cork pieces. See Cork Rod Handles - Cork Grips - Cork Rings from Cork Specialties (I 'm not endorsing). Maybe a very talented artist could use these cork rings or something like it to recreate the handle. If I can't fix it then I'm gonna fish the hell out of it! Hate to lose a beautiful rod to my clumsiness!

It can be replaced, but it involves stripping down the whole rod and rebuilding it.

Sand it, fill it, and use cork tape

One option is to remove the bad cork sections or all of it. Then get a cork grip with a slightly smaller,or same ID as the sections to be replaced. You may have to use several smaller grips to get the same length. Then split the grip(s) in half lengthwise. Check the fit to the blank and make any adjustments. Then just epoxy the halves to the blank, wrap wax paper around it,and wrap that with tape tightly. Let it set, remove the tape and wax paper, then sand to blend with the rest of the cork or the seat and butt cap to your liking.

Even wrapped coffee grinder style with those old Mildrum high frame spinner guides? Whatever flips your switch...
Why not an old Penn 501 with Newell 300C plates...if ya wanna go "old school" that is. Or better yet...an old black 140 with a Reel Deal tranny?
