I heard about these rods a couple years ago and saw the build on the RCBL80M and you guys were saying some good things about them and I was curious what you guys think about their fly rod blanks. If you dont have any experience with the fly rod blanks i would still like some feed back about the blanks. Also, where are they manufactured?
My first fly rod was a rainshadow 10' 7wt. I'd had it about 2 weeks when it folded in half on a back cast. It was under warranty, and the rod I built with the replacement blank is still on the water today ( I gave it to my cousin to learn on ). They are what they are, I felt they were adequate at the time because I had nothing to compare them to. Once I picked up my first sage blank I never gave rainshadows another thought. They are manufactured by Batson, here in the U.S.
I've built a few rods from their blanks and fished a few as well. Mostly Salmon XBB962 and 964 and Sturgeon SWS597 rods. I had a chance to talk with Karry at the workshop that Lamiglas hosted over the weekend and will be building a couple RCLB70L and a RCLB70ML here shortly for live bait Albacore.
The 80M is a bit heavy for up here in the PNW, but I can't see why it wouldn't make a great rod.

i like them alot...to the extent i built a set for me and does have a proven backbone for saltwater rods...no exp on fly yet...i have taken on many charters and told people to fish with them and tell me if the noticed a big difference..most couldnt say they noticed any difference compared to their other graphite composites...keep watching and shopping june/july and you see hear some great news from Batson on rainshadows rclb models
