Customer Service...

In the interest of maintaining our reputation in the face of some people who did not get the kind of fishing they expected...and who somehow feel that this is our fault...i'm posting this coorespondence in order to give both sides of the story so that the rumor mill doesn't get carried away...

Hi Stan...thanks for your note...i am going to try and answer this email without sounding too pissed off at your response...

For starters...read the report i copied in below highlighting the fishing that heated up and led to the reply i made to you on the 19th...this report was written on the 8th just as a big school of cows moved into corbetania and an exceptional marlin bite heated up offshore...as i said in the email to you on the 19th...there are CERTAINLY ALWAYS cows around down here...whether on the high-spots or offshore on the porpoise schools...whether we can catch them on any given day or not is up to our hard work and the luck of the gods...we can't make fish bite Stan...sorry to clarify that myth for you...

We don't bullshit anyone Stan...take a look at all my reports and the ones in there that go into detail about how shitty the fishing was, how we didn't get a damn bite, etc.* we post honest reports and give people the straight goods...

Shortly after i posted this report on the 8th we did manage to get a few shots at cows, one which we lost at the boat and others that bit but we missed or lost as well...we did get some fish in the 150 - 185 range...please take the time to read through the reports from the last few weeks and you'll see that the tunas have turned on since you left...there's photos in those reports too if you still don't believe what i write...

you must remember that Trev runs his own boat as well and although HE may not have had any luck with the bigger tunas I CERTAINLY DID...don't ever insult my integrity i DON'T LIKE THAT ONE BIT...

It sounds to me Stan like you didn't get the catch you were expecting and paid a little too much according to your budget...next time please head out with one of the other more budget orientated charter outfits and i wish you great luck on your next trip...

I'm going to post this entire coorespondence online so people can see both sides of the story...because i sure as hell don't want you spreading around your opinion of our outfit without seeing what i originally wrote to you and what happened thereafter...

In regards to the engine there is nothing wrong with any of the engines on the boats...they are still all running just fine thanks...and in regards to the seat we cannot foresee a seat bracket breaking and flying off it's post Stan...that's just childish to assume that was our fault...although i do apologize for this unforeseen event happening during your day of fishing...

Like i said before...better luck with your next charter...

JT

(i was referring to the post of Jan 8 highlighting the cow school that moved into the rock and the beginning of the epic striper bite offshore)

Josh, funny reply below, when we fished with Trevor on the 27th he must not have known you wrote this. He said there has not been any COWS around or HOOKED by you guys in the last TWO MONTHS. I know that you catch your share of big fish, but to strech the truth to take people for a $1200 DOLLAR*BOAT RIDE is not any way to run a sucessful bussness. I am very connected in the long range fleet, and I know a lot of people in the fishing industry, and I too have sponcers, like you, for line, hooks, rods, reels, and clothing. All of these people, and friends, know I went to P.V. to fish with you, and when these people ask how my trip was, I will tell them the TRUTH, I was taken for a ride, a $ 1200 DOLLAR BOAT RIDE.I don't care how many large Tuna you catch, word will get out if you run a bussness like this, and I don't know many people who will trust you, and book a $1200 DOLLAR BOAT RIDE, on a boat that one motor did not run right and the seat broke and luckly did not injury anyone badly.

Stan...there are always cows around down here...sometimes in great numbers...sometimes just a few but they are always here...we had an estimated 250 pounder that we lost at the boat yesterday after the hook pulled at the 2 hr mark...when you book a charter you book a charter...we can't control what's out there or what's biting...we do work our asses off each and every day out there and then go and catch bait for 3 - 6 hrs at night to make sure our clients have the best bait...Trev is an excellent captain and has won several tournaments right by my side...we'll fish our asses off for you guys for the cows but i don't want to hear any complaining if there's not a great bite to be had...

I hope this dose not seem harsh, just the facts of what the understanding was and the wants of our group. Please get back with me,as we do need to get this worked out. If there are no COWS around Josh may be able to find another group that wants to fish Marlin with Trevor and this way you guys still have a client for the day. I hope the COWS show up and JOSH gets a great deal on a new boat and can get a flite back to take us to catch them. hope to hear from you soon.

Re: Customer Service...

Ya can't please all of the people all of the time.

Remember our trip last year (also in February) Josh? We fished a Monday and a Wednesday. On Monday, we couldn't buy a bite. Nothing. Nada. Well, we did get rocked by what we thought was a grouper but bit off is bit off and other than that, a small sailfish got off when the line broke. But you guys stayed out on the water for what, 12 hours or longer trying to get us bit. Expensive boat ride? No, FISHING. Man, it was slow. And everybody was discouraged. Josh and Trev Never stopped working. We fished until the sun went down and got back well after dark. There were fish around, we saw them attack the kite on one occasion, but they wouldn't go.

On Wednesday, the fishing was completely different. The big baits were eating and the big fish were eating the big baits. It was really great fishing, don't know if you would call it wide open but there sure as hell weren't many lulls. We didn't get a cow (nothing over 200) but we did land 8 fish between 100 and 150 and one schoolie at about 40. You baited a nice dodo that day too.

ITS CALLED FISHING. Its expensive, and sometimes you have a catch and sometimes you don't.

Re: Customer Service...

It's always an eye-opener to get a glimpse of the REALITY of being a charter operator. We always focus on the glorious life of fishing everyday in one of the world's garden spots..."Living the Dream" as we all like to say.

But, it's all too easy to ignore the 3 nasty little secrets (and I know these are not reallly secrets to lots of people on this board but you get my point):

1. Major financial stress - taking on a big fixed nut and having to cover it off before you make anything...and never really knowing what you will make in a year. Gets easier as you build a successful business but that takes years and years.

2. It's unbelievably hard work and the hours are absurdly long.

3. Lastly, and most notably, dealing with some of the customers requires the patience of Job and then some. Some people JUST DON'T GET IT. It's fishing...not catching. Period the end.

Anybody that goes on a charter and EXPECTS to catch a particular kind/size of fish is just totally delinked from reality.

Charter boats are fished hard and even the best cared-for boats, will have problems like a chair break.

Charter fishing is like Vegas. Put up only an amount of money you are comfortable with. Be prepared to "lose it all" with no return except for the experience of going out fishing with no guarantees about catching (just like in Vegas - be prepared to lose it all and just enjoy the fun of doing some gambling). Be sure that you enjoy the experience to the maximum. If you catch (win) anything - BE THRILLED! If the experience itself (i.e. fishing but not catching or playing but winning) isn't worth the money spent/lost to you...don't go.

What you should expect for your money is a knowledgable and hard working captain/crew who operate a "safety first" operation. Based on my experience with Primetime, I think they fulfill those expectations quite well. I was lucky to catch fish. But, I said it at the time and I meant it. I was down there to have fun and learn. The experience itself was worth it and the catching was total gravy.

By the way...don't ask me why...but you catch more fish with that attitude...Karma :-). It's the same attitude when I fish my own boat. We will #1 be safe, #2 have fun and laugh some, #3 work hard to find/catch fish and #4 come home happy no matter what!

From my limited experience as being a fill-in deckie for buddies who run charters...I don't know how you guys do it. The Customers WILL DRIVE YOU NUTS!!!!

:-)

Re: Customer Service...

I certainly don't mind constructive suggestions or advice on how we can make things better...i actually welcome it...

But when people like this threaten to spread a bunch of bullshit around when they have received 100% accurate information just because they didn't get the fish they were hoping for...and then accuse me on top of it???? Whaoh...that makes my blood boil...particularly when you consider how hard Shrek likely worked for these guys...

Anyway...i post this stuff because we operate as transparent as possible because we want people to know that we are human, capable of mistakes, and most importantly have nothing to hide...

Sure, we certainly don't need to let everyone have a backstage pass to the inner workings of Prime Time...but in my mind it's probably better in the long run to let the people get to know our operation and the inner workings behind it...as Rob says...it's not always butterflies and buttercups...but that's the way she goes...

Un Fucking Believable!!!!!

If Stan wants a guarantee to catch a COW maybe he should speak to the operators of the Ensenada Blue Fin Tuna grow pens.

I have so many things that are racing through my mind to type but the words.

Un Fucking Believable keep pushing them out of the way.

Re: Customer Service...

You mean to tell me you can't just hop on a flight to PV, fish your buddies boat a couple days and EXPECT to catch a #300 Yellow Fin Tuna and be able to fly home the same day?????????????????????????

Sounds easy to me

All kidding aside, I know you guys bust your asses.................firsthand knowledge, albeit only for 3 days. It is a hell of alot of work to fish hard all day, refuel the boat, resupply the food, ice, drinks, tackle, leaders, etc...etc....clean up and do it all again in a few short hours. We cheated and had someone make bait for us.....................otherwise we might not have slept for three days.

The other guys nailed it, it is called FISHING, if you can't enjoy being out there with your friends with the regardless of the outcome....................pick another sport.

Re: Customer Service...

Josh, why do you feel the need to explain yourself?

#1. You are posting shit that is between you and some other guy. Do you feel that threatened by one person who might have had a bad expierence with you? You are a business man, and if you are in business for any length of time you will realize that there are always people out there trying to fuck with you.
#2. Do you think that the people that have fished with you are bothered by this? I don't think they are at all, in fact this is the first time that I have ever heard anything negative about your operation(well the second time, the first was the "hit", ). People who fish know that the fishing is not always great or even good sometimes, so I don't think that you have anything to worry bout.
#3. This is the second post in as many weeks where you have brought up people bashing you, or what you said in the last one (which was totally rediculous). I just wonder why you are always trying to explain yourself when these boobs talk shit. Get over it man, there are plenty of people that will come down to chase cows with you. In fact I will venture to say that there will be paying customers coming down to fish your boat until the cows are gone.

You don't need to defend yourself man, cause when shit like this starts getting posted the only thing you are doing is bringing more negative shit to the table. You are also showing your ass by posting conversations between you and the whiner. I hope your business does great this year, and like Mikey said it's fishing......

Re: Customer Service...

Well what a shame Josh!
Some guys seem to have lost the true value of fishing. To run a guiding outfit is extremely hard and sometimes overwhelming.
I just don't understand how someone could be unhappy with a day's fishing with you or shrek.People need to realize that fishing with primetime is not about only catching cows but as much about the full experience!
Someone complaining about the $1200 dollar a day price tag has no idea what it costs to run an outfit like yours down there.
I run a part-time charter business up here and know what it costs for me...but to run something like primetime...I can't even imagine!
Sorry to hear that some guys can't appreciate the effort you guy's put in and have lost all realization to as what a good day's fishing is all about!

I'll be down in the fall...for a day's fishing and a dinner and drinks at hector's afterwards...that's what it's all about!!!

Re: Customer Service...

I hear you dude...but in the interest of keeping the integrity of this "reality show" we've got going here...you do need to show the good and the bad...plus it's therapy for us...i am certainly not used to getting emails like this and it does cause some degree of concern from a personal perspective...

Sometimes you think you're right...but when someone attacks you it can send doubt into your thinking...in this case i needed to hear that this guy was in fact out to lunch and that we're OK in what we're doing...and you guys will always be our greatest supporters and our worst critics...

All due respect Josh, and chances are you're right, but I thought you hockey loving canucks had thicker skin. A paying customer complained privately , and you publicly post a private email. Right or wrong, there's no need for the post unless you were publicly attacked. JMO, Drew
