TLD 50LRSA or Penn 6/0

Looking for some advice on these two reels Only :-) I know how we go off into suggestions on other stuff but I am only considering these two at the moment.

What I need is a Trolling / Dropper reel that will get very little use a few times a season to troll albies and next year Aljos (reason why I'm not going with the designer reels)

I have the Accurates from the 197 to the 665 for all the 30 - 60lb but don't feel the need to drop the dime on a 12 or bigger to get this job done.

I want to keep the costs down but have a reliable reel to fit both bills.

The Penn I would get with tib frame and the 50 just as is.

Cost on both is not a factor because there both imho reasonable.

Thanks to all for the advice .

TLD. Lever drags are stars for trolling.

warzon,

I did splurge on a Penn 114H, a 15KG 2-speed (Cal tuned), and a 30VSW. There reels rarely if ever see use. I would recommend saving your money by using the boat's outfits. The only one of these reels I take on five-day trips now is the 15KG spooled with 50lb line. I have it on a 700XH. When we need heavier equipment we reach for the boat's rods!

Good luck,

TT

Thanks Tommy I figured as much, I made the small investment to fill two extra rods I had laying around a Penn 6/0 for troll / dropper and TLD 30A for 60lb I figure I will not get much use ot of them but hey nice to have as my own :-)

Sorry to add a reel but the Daiwa SLD30 at $270 is pretty hard to beat. You can fish the thing with 50-100lb. Trolling, bait, dropper, whatever. Not quite as castable as the 6/0 but the drag and two speed puts it far ahead.

If you have a stock 6/0....fish it

If you don't.......gotta agree with Double Z

Daiwa SLD 30 is a great reel....better drags and aluminum frame as opposed to graphite......this is a dropper loop reel at the Lupe and my troller......I fish 60# but it could do 80# in a blink
