PG Wahoo Special drags

I recently aquired a used Pro Gear Wahoo Special. I opened it up today and was surprised to find that it had Smooth style drag washers (dark grey w/ metal flakes). I thought that they had carbon style drags like the Albacore Specials. Does anyone know what carbon style washers I can use to replace the stockers?

Penn 4/0 113H size ht-100's, I think. If those are too small then it's the 114H 6/0 ht-100's. My PG454 (yellowtail special) takes the 4/0's. I don't know if the wahoo special has 6/0 sized drags or not. Just take the gear into the shop to size em up.

I just replaced my 454's main gear and pinion with stainless, the bronze alloy gear stripped after about 10 years. sweet reel.

The Turdroller might know.

progear uses penn drags 4/0 i think take one with you to match up and buy the penn kit with the ss washers. use a very lite amount of drag grease on the ht100 for a smoother drag.

Do you have the newer 461 Wahoo special with the three drag washers like the Albacore specials or older style?

HT100 4/0 style drags fit. I recommend taking it to Ken's in Oceanside for the 5 stack washer upgrade. It changes those three sticky drags and the thick steel washers for more HT-100 drags and thinner steel washers to retain the stock thickness of the entire stack. With this upgrade you can fish up to 60# line class on that reel.

Depending on application you can also swap out 4/0 gear ratios, from 3.25, 4.0, and 5.0 if I'm not mistaken. For live bait use, I recommend the 3.25:1.

The reel is a 461. It has the 3 stack drag. I confirmed with Danny at Pro Gear that the Wahoo and Albacore Specials all use the same drags.

The PG 461 has a 5:1 retrieve, regardless of what he's been smoking.

I humbly stand corrected.
If they machined their own 5 to 1 gears, its too bad they didn't make the opening for the drag washers larger as well. I guess thats an added expense to making the reel they didn't want at the time. In addition to having to make them or outsource that part of it. Either way,it makes good business sense.
