hello everyone, I NEED HELP!!!

hey, im trying to put together a rig to use on a charter boat, that would be some-what versitale so i could have fun catching multiple kinds of fish on half-full day excersions. i went to "the jig stop" in dana point and have put together what i feel might be a good combo. i thought the shimano TEK 500 LC reel would be ok, and to use 16 pound test on it. the rod i was thinking to have a custom Calstar made, a GFDH 800 XL. would these make a good set up together? pro's and con's ? once i get this together I CAN FINALLY BREAK AWAY FROM FRESH WATER !!!!! thank you for your time.

Re: hello everyone, I NEED HELP!!!

I like 15lb, 8' or 8 1/2', and a fancy baitcaster, but if you get a yellowtail or a white seabass, it's gonna eat that rig alive(why do you need a linecounter anyways?).

Most newbies like a Shimano torium 16(smooth, simple operation) with a teramar TMC-X80M(soft handle cork, plenty of back-bone), but you could do one better with a Daiwa Saltist 20(H) and anything 8'6". If you can't thumb guide a conventional reel for your life, a lot of guys know about the abus, shimanos, and daiwas better than me.
