I wrap my spool with tape, a couple wraps around and up the spool sides a little. When trying the braid to the spool, I wrap a double loop around the spool and use a uni-knot. The tape and the double loop uni keep the line from spinning around the spool. |

jerry claims slippage will not occur... |

Make sure you wind the spectra onto the spool very tightly, or it will dig in to itself. |

I sell money... want some? | Re: Loading Braid I don't think Spectre absorbs water. I think the problem is that it traps water. There was a tutotial in the reel section, or long range section that shows the proper way to wash Spectre off, dry and respool it. I bought the Swifty Spectre washing kit at the Day At The Docks last year. It's supposed to make this process easy. |

Spectra is trouble because the line is meant to last a long time, so unlike mono, it'll accumulate salt with every trip, never being removed. The salt will cling to the line and the only way to tell is if you lick the line. Mono, on the otherhand, looks frayed or dotted when salt deposits accumulate on the top of it, so most people change it every so often. |

And yes it is important to remove, wash, and dry the spectra (I have one corroded Trinidad spool to prove this point). |

Usually try to at least partially cover the spool surface with mono. It is a pain when you have 250 yards of braid on a spinning reel and it starts to spin on the spool. |
