Hey guys, I was wondering what kind of difference I could expect in the P series Newell vs the S series. It seams to me like the s series would outcast the p series because of the graphite spool. Am I correct...

To be honest, I dont think you can go wrong with either, I actually use the 338, 40lb, 8 foot rod, Used a BT100 (10') it made a long day for throwing the iron. The best of all I've been using it for 12-15 years and with minimul care and maint. I noticed some (reels) for sale reasonably priced in the classified......check it out , Good luck let me know how it works out!!

I am looking to trade with someone for a 332 because the 338 is a little big for my hands. There was actually a P332 that came availible in the classifides that I was thinking about getting but I was a little turned off by the fact that it is a P Series and it didn't have the graphite spool. I bought my 338 with the intention of casting the light surface irons as far as possible. Without the graphite spool though, I was worried I might loose some distance. So, would you say that they cast of equal distance, or would you say that the graphoght spool of an S series should, under similar conditions, be able to get a little farther that a P series? Thanks again...

I have both a P-332 and an S-332 on identical Deckhand sticks and can't really tell the difference in casting distance, although many claim the graphite throws farther.
Personally I prefer the P. Just feels better in my hand.
That will be $0.02, please.

You won't notice the difference!
The 332 is a casting machine...Just replace the stock bearings and grease some HT100's and your good to go..I used a 90J for my throw'in...
Back that Newell with some spectra and you can throw on some 40lb.

The P series has the advantage of aluminum parts over "plastic" ones. Some people prefer this in a reel. Just less to break at the wrong moment in the game. I personally have G,P, and Blackies in my arsenal and enjoy using them all. I do have an S series I have yet to use. I am upgrading some key parts on it before I do use it. No rush as I have no use for a 500 series Newell here in Colorado. (

While I dont know about the actual spool weight but the P-series reels are actually lighter.
P-332 - 15.3 ounce
S-332 - 16.6 ounce
