| Re: Torque or International 16 VSX
Choosing the best "all around" reel is always difficult.
The 16VSX is larger than any of the Torques, and fishes best with 50 or 60-pound topshots.
It would be good for Baja resort trolling for everything from dorado to striped marlin and sailfish. It will handle blue marlin up to about 300 pounds, but if they're bigger than that you would want something heavier.
It's heavier than you need for Baja "drop back" live bait fishing, but will certainly do it.
Aboard San Diego boats, it's an excllent 50/60 pound live bait/tuna/light dropper loop reel.
Very good for tuna in the 50 to 150-pound class, whether bluefin offshore or looooong-soaking a sardine at Guadalupe or Alijos for yellowfin.
The biggest Torque TRQ300 is mainly a heavy jig reel for 40/50 pound and yo-yo'ing for big yellows, wahoo bombs, and great for Baja "drop-back" live baiting and even "stroke-trolling" with hoochies.
I guess the TRQ200 would make the best "all-around local" reel, and will fish anything from 20 to 40 pound topshots, with bait or jigs.
I just put line for "practice casting" on the little TRQ100 field-test reel, and it holds 250 yards of 20-pound Big Game mono.
Specs say 550 yards of 30-pound spectra, so create your favorite line system.
Just from the feel of it, it's hard to think that it couldn't handle pretty much anything under 50 pounds tuna-wise, and I definitely plan to give it a spin on the striped marlin when I head down to the East Cape!
