Full spool retrieve is 44" per crank. Yellow tail go for faster iron when they are fussy. They still have freespool ajustment to fine tune casting. They are light weight graphite reels and over the last 10 years have burned out to drag systems. Sent them back to newell and they rebuilt them for $45.00. I take an extra on my mexican trips because they can't be beat for speed and fish count. |

Hence, if you don't mind disposable reels they are great.

I now use only toriums. The saltist seems to freespool better but the reel is a bit touchy. Torium 20 with 50# spectra backing and 100 yards of 30 or 40# mono should work nicely that's what's on my iron tossing reel. |

The reel has 200 yards of 30# spectra and about 100 yds of 30# P-Line CXX-B. The only time I've seen the spectra was when I had the bright idea to use this rig during an Albacore trip. One 30 lbs. albie and I won't be doing that again soon.
The high speed has plenty of power and casts very nicely.
Just my $0.02

Name: Grady Age: 17 Vessel: It's my dad's but it is a 24' fiberform Location: Long Beach Job:Los Cerritos Wetlands Stewards inc. worked there since jan. of 2007. info of what it's about at lcwstewards.org | Since this thread is still around, I will let you know that I got a Satist 30T, which isn't the high speed, but anyways, I haven't used it for anything but bottom fish, and reeling in a 10oz weight and a couple of rockfish is quite easy to reel in, my wrist holding the rod got tired but not the reeling hand.
Anyways, I like the reel, but hate the clamp. I actually would like a reel for the same purpose (bait/iron) for a Calstar 270H-8 for 25lb mono and was thinking of the Sealine 30 or Newell 229 or next size up 322? because of the rod clamp and weight.
I like the reel and it right now I have on a 670. |

Name: Iconpyro Vessel: I wish I had one...I wouldn't be working then. Location: City of Angels Job:Box maker | I have the entire line of Saltists. I have a 20TH, 30TH, 40TH, and a 50T. I use them for jigging reels, teamed up with Jig sticks either grafighters or Seeker bs. Two years and no parts? Maybe for you. I have rebuilt 4 of my dad's sealine-h's, a 9/0, two 6/0's and a smaller one and amazingly Daiwa had all the parts. Take into account these reels are 20+ years old. I am talking almost an entire internal rebuild.
I live right down the street from them (they are in cerritos) and when I went down I even met one of the support guys there who knows all the parts pretty well, he could name and find the parts I was looking for. My saltists now are on their 4th year of service and I have called to find parts that my dumbass lost on my outings.
