Penn International Torque?

I'm thinking of replacing my old style Daiwa Sealine-X 20 with one of the Penn Torques. Anyone had a chance to use one of these? What do you think? :pourit:

amen...it would be like switching from a penn 500 to an accurate.

if you like the sealines, get the new sha for $100 and free line at squidco. maybe a saltist? your price range could determine a lot. the pro gear classic series are way nice too, have had a few of em before i sold em to pay bills

good luck

Re: Penn International Torque?

i just picked up the 300 and the 200, the 200 compared by wieght to the accurate 870 2 speeder is almost the same. the 870 looks a little bit bigger than the 200.

Re: Penn International Torque?

As a Penn pro-staffer, I have caught tons of fish on both the TRQ300 and TRQ200, they are awesome reels.
Please post if you have specific questions.

Re: Penn International Torque?

Just got back from Alaska, which was the first opportunity to field-test the still-developmental "Lever-Drag" Torque TRQ300LD.
The really big halibut were not biting, and the biggest anybody got was "only" 187 pounds, and the biggest on our boat was a "tiny" 108-pounder, from waters that regularly kick out 250 to 350-pounders.
Halibut are definitely not tuna, and the flatties didn't provide much of a workout for the reels.
They did feel very nice, and the technological innovations are amazing.
I'm looking forward to at least warming up the drags on our upcoming 7-day aboard the Searcher on June 9.

Re: Penn International Torque?

Tuna North what is the target date for the 100 series? Is it also going to have a lever drag option?

Re: Penn International Torque?

The regular "star-drag" TRQ100's have been delayed from the original target date of February 1, but are now moving through the pipeline again.
I would not want to guess as to exactly when they will be available.
They will be awesome albacore reels if we are fortunate enough to have a good season on the albies.
In the "Lever-Drag" Torques, only the TRQ300LD models are even remotely near release, possibly around October.
At some point in the future there will also be TRQ200LD and TRQ100LD sizes, but probably not until early 2008.
