Question Abu Revo STX or Daiwa Coastal??

So I'm having a hard time deciding between these two reels for the lagoons/bay/light-inshore/surf-fishing. I'm definitely staying with a low profile reel, since I love the way my older Curado feels... I'm just not ready to dedicate it to saltwater. I also use an older Abu 5500-C3 for boardfishing, but that's it. I'll usually be fishing 12lb and I'm looking to pair it up with a Shimano Crucial 7' MH/Fast... so my other bass rods can get a rest

The STX looks like a much more capable bassin reel so it would get a ton of freshwater use too... and it's 7:1. However, it sounds like the Coastal has a lot more corrosion protection, and may have the potential to hold up for boardfishing...

So the gist of it is I'm leaning towards the STX, but will it it'll handle the saltwater abuse? Or will I likely be happy with the Coastal and the $80 I saved? Thanks!

Re: Abu Revo STX or Daiwa Coastal??

haven't opened either one up. the abu has carbon fiber drag washers but it needs drag grease. the daiwa probably does not have carbon fiber drag washers, but it would be easy to upgrade. both spin like crazy!

Re: Abu Revo STX or Daiwa Coastal??

at fred hall, long beach, the abu rep was telling me the abu stx can put out 24lbs of drag...i dont know why you would ever need that but it's pretty awesome coming from a little, low profile baitcaster. I think you will be happy with either choice of reel.

The Coastal is just awsome. I have straight 20# Spectra, and use a Clarus CSC76PM 10-17# 7'6" rod.

The most fun I've ever had fishing Calico's.

Casts a 1/4 oz leadhead a mile.

Don't listen to Jay... He's a dumbass, I've used the reel 20 times easily.

Re: Abu Revo STX or Daiwa Coastal??

Thanks for all the feedback! Went the cheaper route and got the Coastal and a Clarus CSCX70MH (7' MH/EF 12-20 1/4 - 1 1/4)... and I am so damn pleased with my decision This little reel is amazing and I can pitch a 1/4 oz a mile on this combo! Even got to pull on a few spotties right before dark in the dirty ass Harbor.
