clamp on a new 113hn use or not?

Just got a new 113hn and I'm the process of mounting it on a factory seeker 665h:
Question: is the reel seat enough support for this setup or should I also use the clamp provided? The clamp as this loop/ring thing on the side of it that gets in the way regardless of which way I turn it, gets in the way with my left hand when reeling in and my right casting.

Grind it down with a dremel! Worked like a charm for me.

Re: clamp on a new 113hn use or not?

would prefer to do it without the clamp cause kind of gets in the way.
just want to know if the factory reel seat is strong enough by itself to the job.

Re: clamp on a new 113hn use or not?

I like using the clamps, especially with an Aftco or other brand aluminum reel seat, only because these seats are more prone to loosen up with vibration. I just took a look at the reel stand/foot on mine, and it's pretty heavy duty. I'd have no problem using it without the clamp. In fact, last trip I nailed four Colnett yellows with it on a 6465H with a Fuji graphite reel seat and 50 lb and had no problems.
