Which reel should I use?

I have calstar 90J with a torium 30 that I use to throw surface irons. I just got a newell 338. Which reel do you think would be better for throwing surface irons in southern california on the 1/2 day and 3/4 day boats?

Re: Which reel should I use?

Had to beat a Newell for throwing light iron. Like the 332 more than the 338 for iron, I have used both since the P series first came out.

Re: Which reel should I use?

Try them out on the same stick and see which one you like. You already own the two reels. It's kindof a moot point. Whichever one you don't like can be your live bait rod after you go buy a 700ML. Good luck with that one.

Re: Which reel should I use?

Next time you go out just fish one for a while, then switch to the other reel. That way you will know what works best for you. Maybe you could come back on the boards and report your findings.

Re: Which reel should I use?

If you think distance is the only factor in fishing surface iron then go with the Newell, if you can sacrifice a couple yards and want a smooth fight then use your Torium, I like both options it just depends on my mood!!! When it's wide open I like to use every different option, switch between 3 or 4 rods, try something new!!!

Re: Which reel should I use?

Torium 20 or 332. If you use the Torium keep up on the maintinance or you'll be sorry. I destroyed one in less than 3 months...
