Re: Which reel should I use?

I ALSO PREFER THE NEWELLS OVER THE TORIUMS FOR JIGGING. THEY'RE LIGHTER FOR ALL DAY CASTING, AND THE EXTRA 10 YARDS IN DISTANCE CAN PRODUCE MORE STRIKES. HOWEVER, I LIKE THE 332 OVER THE 338. LESS WOBBLE IN THE HANDS WHILE HIGH SPEED CRANKING. MY .02

Re: Which reel should I use?

use the newell, then see which one you can cast the farthest, the iron or the torium.

Re: Which reel should I use?

Torium 30 is a great choice. Lot's a pulling power.

A tad on the heavy side for casting all day. I have the Torium 30 on my Super Seeker Ulua. No complaints in casting or pulling performance.

Per other comments try em both on the same rig and go from there.

Good luck.

Funny stuff masterBAITER88 :-)

ditto that! and we all hate maintenance especially for local gear.

newell 332 FOR LOCAL. you won't need the "pulling power" of a torium locally that a 332 can't handle.

then when the day's over, rinse, back off the drag and fugetabout it... the toruim requires more maintenance.

JMHO...

OH HELL NO!

gotta agree with Smudge here. different reels are known for different highlights. Accurates are known for their drags. for the local iron scene, there's a lot to choose from which cost less and can do the job. see my above post.

unless you're into the snob factor... lol...

JMHO...

Re: Which reel should I use?

Don't know of any reel more comfortable after a day of tossing iron than a Newell. Easy to clean, light, plenty of drag for the local scene. The P332 has been my jig reel for almost 25 years, and I aint gonna change anytime soon.
