Re: 20lb reel

Daiwa SL 20, not the prettiest or the smoothest, but it gets the job done without spending a fortune.

Re: 20lb reel

Depends on if you plan on casting plastics. If yes, go with the Luna. I have a Calcutta and its not worth $220. I've heard great things about the Luna. If you plan on using the rod for bait, go with the avet or a Daiwa SL20x. Good luck.

Today I went out and did it... I bought a Newell 220 at JP's for a great price... only because Noahs didn't have a 220 though.

Good for ya! What are you going to match it to? Have you tried it yet? If so are you happy with it?

Re: 20lb reel

On what reel and where are you using it and what are you targeting?

A Newell 220 will hold about 180 yds of 20# mono. Local inshore you don't need much line so that's fine.

Offshore with a small reel I like to have more capacity so the spectra comes in handy. Besides, with spectra, when you change the line you only have to change the mono. Over time you save money with spectra.
