Same here. I've got 2 Grandwaves and an older model Sealine 20 w/6-1 ratio. Smooth drag, light spool, no power. It seems like you have to dip the rod and get way below drag pressure to gain line. I've stopped fishing them.

It was my go-to stick for almost everything until I switched to Trinidads but those aren't in the price range you requested.

I have a Calcutta and its not worth $220. I've heard great things about the Luna. If you plan on using the rod for bait, go with the avet or a Daiwa SL20x. Good luck. |

A Newell 220 will hold about 180 yds of 20# mono. Local inshore you don't need much line so that's fine.
Offshore with a small reel I like to have more capacity so the spectra comes in handy. Besides, with spectra, when you change the line you only have to change the mono. Over time you save money with spectra.
