Question To spend or not, Accurate

I'm looking at the accurate 665 to fish Lupe' with 40#. I fish down there every year and have caught 100# plus Tuna and some nice Yellowtail's. I guess I'm looking for some opinions from Accurate owners. Are they worth the bucks for more drag and smoothness? Thanks for your help!

Yes, they are. You can easily move up to 50# or 60# with the 665, too.

$400+ for a single speed? A penn Baja Special, or even just a YTS'd 4/0 can do the exact same job.

You could buy an two-speed Avet EX and still have money left over for beer, or strippers, or a man massage.

Re: To spend or not, Accurate

I've got that exact reel that I was planning on selling in the near future. Let me know if you're interested. I just had it completely serviced by Accurate before my 6-day trip last week.

I think for smoothness and powet they are hard to beat. I fish mine along side some avets and if I was pulling on big fish I would much rather have the Accurate. I love my avets, don't get me wrong, but the Accurate is just tougher and smoother.

I have the reels you mentioned and the Accurate 665 as well. The Accurate is a certified fish killing reel and if you ever feel the need to stop a tanker.....the twin drags work just fine.

The Avet has a steep drag curve.....love the reel and am taking it on a 10 day....the Baja Special is a nice reel as well ( also on a 10 day)......Penn got this one right.......a tib'ed YTS is easy to work on and has killed plenty of fish
( just use it for local stuff now as a trolling reel )

The Accurate 665 4:1 / 1 is a great yo-yo / bait reel with more than enough power....filled with 80# hollow and Loop to Loop wind on anywhere from 40 - 60 pound although I prefer a Accurate 870 for 40 pound, the 270 for 30 pound and the 197 for 20-25 pound

The 6:1 / 1 is also going as a wahoo reel 65# solid with a 50# top.

You will like the power this reel has and it is built SOLID....forget the man massage....go whip ass on some feesh

Sorry but a Penn Baja or a YTS doesn't have near the drag a 665 will. That 665 will eat those reels up.

Re: To spend or not, Accurate

got back from the Royal 5 day'r and from what i could see, the avets were great reels! one did get burned out and they told the owner to "rack it". the 665 4:1 kept going and going and going... both doing the long soak with 80lb hollow with 40lb fluoro topshot. for power and extended life, you can't beat 'em.

but once again, YOU MUST DO MINIMAL MAINTENANCE for maximum performance! see their URL.

Hey, I can't stop someone from buying a $450 (charbait price) reel. Just seems steep for a single speed. I can see if you were gonna target 100+ pound fish or something like that, since lever drags generally do a better job of dispersing the heat of a smoking drag when a fish heads to the horizon.

But you and I can have a little contest.

You leave your 665 at the bottom of the ocean, and I'll put my Baja next to it. Drags completely backed off. We'll pick them up after a week, and see which one still works.

Or, you drag your 665 across the non-skid of the Q105, from bow to stern. I'll do the same with my Baja. We'll see whose feelings are hurt more.

How about this...you take your 665 completely apart, all the way down to the screws, in the galley of a 45' rocking boat heading out of Half Moon Bay in February, and I'll do it to my Baja. Let's see who can put theirs back together without a diagram, with just a screwdriver, and have it working first.

You strip the gears on your 665, and I'll do the same with my Baja. Betcha a shiny new dime I'll fix mine before Accurate fixes it for you sends it back.

You throw a Tady 45 with your 665, drag buttoned all the way down on a 90j, I'll do the same with my Baja. We'll see which jig goes farther.

We each get $500. You buy a new 665, I'll buy a new Baja. We'll see who can get the most lap dances at Pure Platinum with the change. beaver

Ya up to it?
