I'm with Smudge, albatross is the first person I've ever heard that thought so. Reelman, Hawk, ECNewellman, Bolle and other reel experts I know beg to differ. Go with Penn HT-100's or Smoothie Carbontex. Both are carbon fiber. Dry or greased is the only decision... I'm a dry guy.
I use a Torium 20 on my jig stick.

If you are backing the reel what pound spectra and how long of a top shot? I have the 20, 30, and the 338 and am still debating which one to toss iron on my 5 day with. Chad

Chad | Chad, If you want to and I know you have allot of gear already but take my P-533 slammed and a Torium 30 set up for surface iron. Both have a tad of spectra backing but if you reach the spectra casting your a gawd.
That free's up another bait reel or yoyo for other rods.
But to answer your question. I throw 50# mono for Yellow and Tunas with a tad of 65# solid spectra backing, for capacity and to save money on mono refills. Pack about a 1/4 spool. I would NOT throw a 338 at Lupe or the Yellow Islands, 50# + Yellows live at the Islands and 100# + Tunas at Lupe. A Torium 20,30, or 533 IMO if you want to get em.
Seeyah soon. |

Leverdrags, stardrags, 25lb and under, 30lb and over? Before a 6 pack, after a 6 pack?
