Daiwa Saltist 40 Frame Upgrade/Reel Clamp

I've received a few PMs about what the Daiwa Saltist 40 upgrade looks like, so I took a few pix.

Many of you probably already have this frame because Daiwa started upgrading the frame/bolt/clamp system after complaints. And with the old system it totally sucked. It was huge in my hand and put pressure on the inside of my wrist while throwing the jig.

Unfortunately the 30 still has this bolt/clamp system, but I found a way to fix that. I chopped the screws down.

Here are the 30 screws. This is how the 40 looked also. Combined with the old clamp footer, it was too cumbersome.

It's my job, I make pretty pictures.

I used an overhead fluorescent light. Kitchen lights that I moved above the work bench. Turned the product into the light. It's most likely the camera and lens as well. Consumer/Professional Nikon.

Re: Daiwa Saltist 40 Frame Upgrade/Reel Clamp

I have both a saltist and a saltiga in the 30t size. Both have the funky bent bolt system. I didn't even realize there was a problem as the first few times I used the reel it was in a reel seat. However recently I went on a 7mday trip with mostly jig rods and went crazy. How can I upgrade the seats to bolt on my jig rods? What parts do I need and what sort of modifications.
Happy Trails,
Ray Ochoa

Re: Daiwa Saltist 40 Frame Upgrade/Reel Clamp

It only took a few days to get the reel back from Daiwa, 1 week tops. I suggest calling them and letting them know that you are sending you reel in. Write them a nice note also. It should be free.

I don't think there is an upgrade for the 30s. I'll post pix later, but I cut those screws down to fit the more slim reel clamp. I also cut down the bolts, to the heads. When putting it all together I added 1 washer and 1 lock washer. It works, but it's a pain in the ass to put together. THOSE SCCREWS SUCK!!!!!!!!

Really, those pics are great. I've tried to take pictures of my rod wrapping & it's an absolute bee-atch!
