Reel for Krocs

Is there a better reel for throwing Krocadiles in the surf in Baja on 20-30lb test than a Newell 338?

Better, probably not, alternatives, yes. Penn 975CS (to pricey) Daiwa 40HLV (best buy) Daiwa Garndwave 40 (awesome if you can find one) Penn 505 (old skool fav) Calcutta 400 Cs, Calcutta TE700 ........and on and on and on.....Abu 7000.......avet.....(dont let Micah cast the Avet)

Re: Reel for Krocs

I like to be able to reach those sierra that are way out after a long day of getting barreled, I think the 338 is definitely the way to go.

I have the 974CS, it doesn't cast well enough, and it's a little too shiny to be left alone by those uniformed punks who are always snooping around our campsites. Those punks are why god invented my rottweiler!

Re: Reel for Krocs

If you are wanting more distance with a lighter Kroc, maybe a 229 with spectra/mono. Other than that, maybe a VS spinner? Hard to beat the light Graph spool for distance.

Re: Reel for Krocs

Off the beach a Cardiff 400 or newell 220 50lb spectra backing with a short floro top shot 30-50lb. I also bring my sx along just incase. Bring more reels than rods, if the fishing is hot you'll need 'em.
