lookin at both, cant decide! 300-more line cap.-clicker, level wind mech. always engauged, anti back lash control inside cover. 253-less cap, no clicker, controls on outside, levelwind disengauge, better free spool. Using mostly in lagoons in baja, bass halibut, etc. any help?

You could get the 253 and then use spectra to gain capacity. Personally I like a 300 size reel as it has a lot of versatility.
I may be able to get a deal on Lunas. If you're interested let me know and I can find out the price.

i've bought the 300 for the extra capacity and versatility, like chaum said. either way, the luna is a killer levelwind. more solid than the calcutta 400b. If you think you might try to get into larger baja fish, the wider version might be the way to go. the non-disengauging levelwind really doesnt hurt the casting, and the freespool is incredible. i was throwing light surface iron (7x light jrs.) today for bass and barracuda w/ 20lb, and it suprised me how well it performed. also great at casting flylined sardines. if the 253's freespool is better, its probably overkill because the 300's is great. hope this helps

If you are fishing bass and halibut in the harbors the 253 is fine. I fish a Calcutta 200 and its more than enough for anything I will hook into in most harbors other than bat rays. I know the harbors down Baja hold big halibut and possibly some big WSB but you shouldnt have a problem with the 253. Also, the 253 is going to be much more comfortable to fish.

This might be a little late but I have the 253 and it awesome. I fish 12# P-line (p-line is thicker than regular line) and it handles the fish great. It has like you said a sweet free spool and the drag system is great. I like having the controls on the outside of the reel I can go from 3/4 oz leadheads down to 3/8 oz. and just adjust. I am not a pro and cant just leave it open all the way.
I fish mostly bass along the rocks and in shallow waters and the line capacity is just fine with the 253.
