need some advice

what's up guys....just bought a penn squider 140 and i'm having a little problem with it. sometimes when i cast, the line gets caught into the little gap in between the spool and the frame. Am i just not doing something right when casting or is it the spool? there's obvoisly enough room for line to get in by just looking at it. any solutions? as always, thanks for any help.

Reel too full

Usually the reel is just too full. For smaller diameter line, back with dacron first.

Does the spool move from side to side? If so tighten the "newbie knob" on the side plate until the spool barely moves lateraly. This should prevent the spool from creating a gap.

Hey dude...this is a very common problem with these reels. What lb. test line are you using?
The oldtimer fix was to use nail polish around the edge of the spool to build it up a little so line doesn't get in there. Obviously you have to take the spool off to do this.

But if you can adjust the spool with the little screw on the side-plate and it takes out the play then you should do it that way.

Good luck with it.

im using 20 lb on it. i'm having the same problem with my newell also. i'm guessing i might just need some more practice, but i don't want to have that problem on a wide open bite. which screw is it on the side?

Should be on the right side plate {the big one.} Tighten it down a little and see if that helps. You don't wanna get it to tight as you will lose your freespool.

it is a common problem as stated above. back then, the tolerances were not as precise as these days. us older guys did the fingernail polish trick. that's why newell was such a nice reel. your newell shouldn't be doing that. if your adjustments are correct and the reel still does it, send it back to newell.
