Shimano service

I have heard that Shimano is not being quite as good as they once where in replaceing reels that are not performing to specs. Reason: Kayaks! They are dunking their reels in the water all the time and then going though the surf with the reels and getting sand in them. Seemed to make sense to me...anyone else heard this?

Yeah I'm sure it has nothing to do with the people who fish twice a year, never service or rinse their reel and then bitch at shimano when they don't work, you're probably right, it's all those dedicated yakers who spend as much time and as many oportunities as posible fishing...
