You got to show what you got not just talk it. Yeah I am calling you out, show me you can cast over 200+ | You can convert emptying a spool to the point of effecting a cast to however many yards you want. I don't fish P line either. All I know is I can empty one pretty dam good. Sorry if that bothers you.
So my mouth is not in yardage my mouth is I will pass you up by a land slide . I have no idea in yardage but I can tell by your recommendations my jig is landing way past yours. Compensating for, you are bothering me with crappy info. Like a Accurate 665 being good for the surface plug.
Nothing to see here move along. |

That was not me, that was costamako who made that recomendation.

all i know is that brad is right...ask this same question to wahoodad or guys like norm kagawa and they will all give u the same answer that brad did b/c they are right. they have fished the most, caught the most fish and know how to do it and they do it right, otherwise they wouldn't be regarded by the rest of us as the best.
it's simple physics. period. i've never met brad and i'll throw my money on him b/c i know ppl who have fished with him and he's legit and he is giving you great info and advice and it is being underappreciated. the man is honest and he knows his stuff and he knows it well. appreciate the fact he takes his time to offer advice, its a very nice gesture on his part.

Well...I use a 332 and occassionally I can get my jig to fly.
However, I've seen Brad throw a jig, and yeah, he'd probably nearly empty my 332.
Brad, how'd you like throwing iron with Jason's SLX40? I feel really comfortable with the Sealines and was thinking about picking one up to toss iron.

All things being equal a wide reel (338 vs 332) will get you more distance on the cast due to the effective spool diameter remaining larger, longer. I still prefer the narrower reel because I spend a lot more time cranking than throwing and that extra 10-15' doesn't mean much except for the superior looks it enables me to give to my buddies while the crowd is ooh'ing an aww'ing.

That is the one knock on the wider spools. I fish a Daiwa SL50SH with 30 pound on a 90J (for local fish only - if you go long, you better have a 40# reel for the jig) and the one thing that kind of sucks about it is getting the line back on the reel. You need a long thumb
I'm going to have to check out the 338 that Brad uses. Dude can fish and if he says so, I'll take a look at the thing. Brad, what is the gear ratio on the 338? The 6.1:1 on the SL50SH gets interesting on fish around 25-30#.

No wonder you look like such a pussy when catching fish on iron.
My SL X50HV is 4.9:2:1 and is probably up there with the newell in casting distance. It also fits a trini 30 handle and has wet drags.
Besides my mom could out cast you.
Like you Brad has touched my rod. He even said it was smooth and had good casting...
All reels loosen up if they are FISHED a lot. Best reels are used ones IMO.
