I'm covered then! Red series Newell 338 on the 90J as backup if my Avet LX blows up. The LX sure "appears" to be a nice, well built reel. Only one way to find out.

For 40# ? Or is that what you use with a differant line class other then 40# which I would imagine is less.

I guess a good question is what are you going to be mainly firing at. I can see allot of people think of Barracuda, Bonita, Bass, and small Yellowtail when thinking of surface iron. I do too locally but I also fish surface iron for larger grade fish other places.

The question was 40#.

If you fire with a 332 you are very limited in size of fish you can kill not to mention distance, call me crazy if you want but its physics yo.

I have alot of faith in my P332. While I only fish 30LB. I dont think 40 pound is a problem especially something with smaller diameter like original PLine would work well. That big handle gives you some good cranking power. Its also light so you can cast all day. You will get plenty of distance too, to me the distance really depends on who is throwing.

I think we should all get together at a park and bring our long rod's. We have allot of members with different combos for their jig sticks. I for one would like to wing a few off your dudes jig sticks.

Different blanks, same blank cut down, different blank and reel combos, ect.

I think its a good idea.

That is a great idea. We can switch reels and rods to get a feel for them. Maybe even have some contest for distance and accuracy.

Someone on this board told me that they cant use a 332 because they lose 3/4 of their spool on each cast so they need to use a 338. I would like to see someone cast 225 yards.

I think I got a jig to go over 225 yards before. I was a few sheets to and didn't check my line after about dozen logs, cast a fully loaded 100J into a nasty backlash and fired a 45 into shallow orbit around the Green Tanks. I don't ever remember it hitting the water. Prolly still flying around out there.

That's me Not claiming yardage it just empties enough to the point of effecting my cast, for me. I like wide reels for hucking. I have both well 3 including P440.

It would be cool. I have seen allot of combos thrown out and I would love to try them. In fact I have been thinking of getting a new long rod for this season and would be stoked to test some water out before.... Its not easy to get allot of differant long rods in one place at the same time.

Try the bow of the Double in the summer time!! Nobody wants to share when the fish are biting. Can't say that I blame them!! I'm minus a jigstick at the moment. Gonna order a new blank this week, gonna have to learn to wrap mighty quick!!

My 332 takes about 325-350 of 30 pound depending on the brand. If you are casting out 230 yards that is 690 feet of line. We might need to use a big park. I have to see it to believe it.

Is there a specific reason you like to use 30# for hucking?
Or just personal preference?

On that stick I use a Cal Star 6485L, it is rated as a 20 (30) 40 stick so i think 30 is ideal and the reel is also rated for 30. It can handle 40 but I use a 90J for 40 and a Torium 20 on that. The reel was a gift so I put it on a 90J.
