40lb on the 338 and for line capacity spectra back it (50lb-65lb) but not allot of spectra as you do not want to cast into it, atleast I dont like to with surface iron. Thats what I use for local surface iron.

338 on 90J will be killer. Jason uses a 40 sealine and boy does that fire too.

you want the wider reel, i.e. avet lx, daiwa 50, shimano 30. the line comes off the wide spool way easier and the spool/line wont heat up like it does on the narrower series.

i switched from the narrows, which are way more comfy, to the wides. the narrows are better for fishing bait for me...but i really like to fire off iron so having the right iron reel dialed in is way more important to me.

Yep the faster your spool disintegrates the weaker your cast, well to a certain point anyways.

That is one reason why firing with a 332 does not appeal to me nor seem very practical.

I have a newell p-series 533 on my seeker 6490 with 40 pound. The 533 has much more capacity than a newell 338. I think it can hold 375 or 400 yards of 40 pound. Go with the Newell it can toss jigs a mile

Personally I would not get an avet for the fact I have seen so many of them blow up ony you. If you dont go for a Newell which for its price is great than think about a pro gear these are pretty nice.

I'm calling bullshit unless I see proof. Blow up an Avet, my ass. I guess it's possible if you are using an SX for Marlin or something stupid like that. OK so even if ONE blew up due to some form of defect, but "SO MANY"???? Please.....

I have an AVET and love it. I can see where you would say that about BS that it blew up.

I did however have a captain tell me that one fell apart on him. This was an early model when they were first coming out.

Go Newell 332 and go P series if you can.

newell p332, or 322. Or Pro gear CS625. After seeing the CS625 I was hooked. It's going to be my next reel. Personally, I don't like Avets, although they look cool.

on the islander a couple different trips that I worked i dont know if they took care of there shit but it happened hard for me to believe too. It happened to 3 of them in 2 consecutive trips they just fell apart not literally blew up. Too me for such a nice reel to just fall apart I dont understand. Only logical thing i can think is not taking proper car of the reel. Go with newell you cant go wrong.
