new to offshore/inshore fishing

i am new to offshore fishing...ive been on one chartered boat and looking to go on more trips (nothing over 2 or 3 days, usually just full day boats)

anyways,
i currently have a 7' Penn Powerstick and Diawa Regal BRi ("bite n' run spinning reel") with 25lb test. its the set up i used on the first day boat i went on.

any suggestions on a good (average) set-up for me?
any concerns with the current set-up i have now?

obviously i know very little about this.

thanks in advance for any help.
