If only 1, then a Tiagra 50 with 80lb JB hollowcore spectra. But then again, we hunt mostly bigger stuff and it would not be a good choice for most.

Well since we fish only summer months, I'd have to go with my Saltiga 50. It is an excellent all-around reel with the ability to boat really big fish. And while it is not stellar is the casting category, it will keep up with the Joneses.

God knows, I'd hate to have to face such a distressful scenario. I like all of our reels!!!

Now if I were able to fish when really big fish bite, I'd probably buy a Penn 50 VSX and be happy as hell. But even with that, my Saltiga would probably see far more use.

We'll see what happens this August on our five day trip. I might just return singing praises for our Baja Special reels! But since we've yet to use 'em, I am not prepared to opine it's superior to Saltiga.
