12-15# Reel

New member here. I'm looking at getting an inshore reel for calico, cuda, bonito, etc. and am leaning towards the Curado. Is this a freshwater reel or also built for saltwater abuse? Any comments on the maintainance for this? Are Calcuttas more suited for this environment?

Thanks.

Look at the shimano Curado 300 DSV, The shimano Calcutta 400, or one of the smaller Trinidads. Can't go wrong with any of them...

All good choices. Calcuttas work fine in the ocean but like with any reel, maintenance will make it last. I've got two 251's I've used for fresh and saltwater for about 15 years and still work great.

If you want the best, go with Daiwa Saltigas. They are works of art. Superb quality, awesome freespool, ultra smooth drag, and unbelievably solid reels for their size plus they pull like a Warn winch.

for a low profile a curado would be good.i recently got a 200 size one 5:1 for more power against larger bass, halibut.calcutta holds more line but with a larger size overall.if ya got the time go to a tackle shop and see what feels good to ya too.keep in mind a new curado is about to hit the stores after icast i beleive.ive got it on a daiwa heartland bass rod mh 7ft with the concept guide its a sweet combo.cant go wrong with that or a clarus combo,if you want a really good relatively cheap rod.if you need more line on the reel, throw on some braid and youre good to go.

Abu Garcia Record...go check it out at the Chino Hills Turners. It takes plenty of abuse with little maintence.
