Yes It will hold plenty and it will hold up just fine. Pretty much the ideal line class for that reel!!

I fished it with 100 over 135 spec and did fine on fish to 150 this Feb. It's a great reel. Lot's of drag, not too heavy at the rail. It makes throwing the 80-100lb line a little easier too. Wouldn't fish it during a jumbo bite, but for the 80-150's it's fine IMO.

if it's 25#'s at strike and 35#'s at full, you may have to tweak it a little. check your reel to make sure you get that range. i don't remember what the drag range was for the last one i worked on.

I have 135lb Spectra on mine and use 80lb and 100lb topshots without problems.

Alan you have a PRO EX 30N of mine at your shop now. I caught a few over 200 with it. Curious as to how the internals look, drags bearings? Drag was never a problem.

I fish my 30N with a full spool of 80lb JBH with around 75 yard splice of 130lb JBH spliced on the end with no problems. Its a nice reel. Caught a lot of big fish with it.

scott, i just finished going through both the avet 30 and the avet 50. nice reels, both of them. the 30 had the smaller 4/0 sized handle grip. i was finally able to get the screw out with an impact socket and installed a larger 5/0 grip. you'll be much happier with the larger handle grip. the drags on both reels were greased and the rotors were set to the lower pins for a higher drag range. spool bearings on both reels were cleaned out, lubed and re-installed open. the side plate and handle bearings were opened up, packed with grease, reshielded and re-installed. actually three or four of the side plate and handle bearings had to be replaced because they were rusted inside. that's the problem i see most commonly.

i checked for freespool and they spin for 20-30 seconds each. not bad for such heavy reels. i also checked the drag range and you got 30#'s of drag at strike and still had more to go. you should be able to kill anything that swims! i'll get the handle grips changed on the internationals this weekend and ship them down to bob.

Thank you Alan. The handle on the 30 was way to small for me. I am looking forward to using them in November. Actually I can hardly wait. I havent fished in months, other than some fly fishing for trout.
