Avet MXJ single or two speed?

I'm looking to upgrade my 20# and 40 # reels. I can't see why I would need a 2 speed for the 20#. I would think the single speed MXJ should do the trick. I plan on ONLY using this for live bait. Any thoughts? With about $110 difference I don't see why I should pay the extra for a feature I can't see a benefit of having.

I'm going to get the JX 6/3 2 speed for my 40# rig. Some day I might want to use the 40# for throwing iron or something. Though I really only plan on using it for bait as of right now.

Thanks,

Chad

I think you are just fine to use a single speed for 20#. Also, consider an SX instead of a MXJ for 20#. I consider the MXJ to be more of a 25# reel. Load an SX with 300yds of spectra and a 100yd top shot of mono, and you will have plenty of capacity. No need for the extra size and weight that comes with a MXJ for 20# in my opinion. The SX is nice and light and will handle drag pressures enough to fish even heavier than 20#. As a matter of fact, there are some people here that do just that. If you feel comfortable with your casting and knot tying ability, you load the SX to the rim with spectra and you can fish anything from 20-40lb short topshots.

Your perfect on your selection for your 40# rig. Defiantly go with 2 speed JX.

I for the life of me don't no why anyone would need a 2 speed on 20lb gear. Think about it, when was the last time you just had to winch up a massive 5 pound calico in low gear because you couldn't get a turn on it with a single speed speed (don't think so)? I have an SX single speed and I love it.
