Name: Tunanorth Vessel: Bass Tracker 16 Location: By the lake Job:Writer | TRQ200 As a Penn Pro-Staffer, I have fished this reel since the very early development stage.
I have caught tons of fish with it, including albacore, yellowtail, bluefin, yellowfin, wahoo, marlin, sailfish, amberjack, big Alaska halibut, lingcod, you name it.
It performs best with 30 or 40 pound topshots, or "straight" 50 to 65-pound braid.
It casts great due to the "disengaging pinon gear", just be sure to de-grease the bearings out of the box and add the "speed oil" product of your choice.
for surface iron, I put a 100-yard topshot of 40-pound mono over 250 yards of 50-pound braid [350 yards total], but for bait fishing with very short 25-foot topshots, it will hold 400 yards of 65-pound braid or 475 yards of 50-pound braid.
Lots of cranking power, and of course the high gear ratio is great with jigs.
If you have large hands, it may be more comfortable to change the handle over to the larger one off the Baja Special.
If using a "cork tape" rod with 40 pound line, I also like to use the "metal" rod clamp off a 16VSX instead of the "stock" nylon one.

Name: Tunanorth Vessel: Bass Tracker 16 Location: By the lake Job:Writer | TRQ200 A few more points of clarification, good brands of speed oil that are sold in most tackle shops include: Speed-X, Hot Sauce and Rocket Fuel.
If you are using any rod with a reel seat or 30 pound line or lighter on a cork tape rod, the lightweight rod clamp it comes with is just fine.
If you are "just" fishing albacore, this reel is a beast!
I really love the smaller TRQ100 for most all albacore work unless they are mixed with something bigger.

on albies but it was more for the future. Thank you for all the info. I will degrease it
and use the speed oil. |

Job:Seaforth Sportfishing Bio: "... and how many days do you think you've been fishing in the last 12 months?" "about 400" | depends on what you like in a reel. there tough as nails and built like a tank but the spool and the whole reel in general is pretty heavy. I have a few friends that fish them. If you like the reel in your hands at the shop, you'll probably like it on your rod. If you want better freespool, and your going to clean/maintain your reel properly the degrease and lube is a good idea. May I recommend Xtreme lube. Make sure to set your drags accordingly while its open. |

I have my TRQ200 on a 10-foot Tady 1097 jigstick.
With a Tady 45 and a 40 pound topshot on this rig, I know that the best cast these 54-year old old shoulders can produce is about 95 yards.
Accordingly, my topshot is 100 measured yards, and I can get very close with a favorable tailwind.
Last October aboard the American Angler, deckhand Taro [22 years young] borrowed the rig, and promptly yelled: "Hey Steve, your topshot is way too short".
My reply was "It's not too short for me!".
In the right [young] hands, casts of over 100 yards with a Tady 45 are easily achievable with a TRQ200.

I bought one of these metal clamps. Its labeled "Iron alloy". I notice its slightly magnetic. Have you had any issues with rust or corrosion? |

My oldest one has been in use since summer 2005, and all are at least a year old, nothing unusual so far.
I do use "Salt-X" pretty meticulously.

Make sure whatever solvent you use is dried from the bearing before re-oiling. Don't spin them when they're dry, and oil them with ReelX, Black Market Oil, CorrosionX etc. What I use depends on how often I plan to break it down for a clean and inspect. Oils with different viscosities offer different lengths of protection to your bearings. Grease is obviously the longest lasting lube and protection. CorrosionX thickens with standing and lasts a long time. ReelX is thinner and requires more frequent application. Black Market Oil is right there with ReelX for viscosity. Extreme Lube Plus is the thinnest solvent/oil that I know of and makes some of my reels freespool up to three minutes. No one needs that kind of freespool so I mix a drop of Extreme and Black Market or ReelX to get the right freespool vs longevity. Good luck with this. |

Name: Zack Age: 28 Vessel: 18 parker Location: san diego Job:occupated | Torques cast really well. They make great surface iron reels if you can deal with the little bit of extra weight. My buddy has a gg90j with a torque 200, and they're matched perfectly. I've fished a saltist 40, newell533, torium 16 and a trini 30 on my gg90j, but the torque 200 is the reel I'll eventually buy and stay pat with (need cash first). It will probably feel better on a rod with a thicker but section, but thats just my guess. Sick reel.
