shimano calcutta baitcasting reel fix

i got a calcutta 400b and it casts fine but when i go to engage it i hear like sliping of the gears and the handle will turn but the reel wont engage. can anybody give me a tip on how to fix it.

I had the same exact problem. If you bring it in to Shimano in Irvine, they will fix it for a flat rate of $25, if they can not fix it they will replace it for free. They have a great customer support division, just have to get it down there. I would call first,

The anti-reverse cogged washer has been reversed. You have to look closely but the cogs aren't evenly squared. One side has a bit of ramp to it. There is a right and wrong way to put it on. The last guy who worked on your reel got it wrong. Open it up and turn that wheel over.
