I saw this on an east coast site. They say "An easy way to keep braided lines from slipping on a spool is to wrap tennis racquet handle replacement grip tape on first."

on a baitcaster... Hmm

As stated already, easiest way is about 10yds of mono first then join your braid to that.... will never slip.

Quick and easy.

Take some packing tape and wrap it around the arbor of the spool. The kind with the threads in it or you can use stretch wrap. Tie the knot to it and then spray Corrosion X or Beo shield on aluminum spools.

That's all it takes.

Doesn't seem much different from the electrical tape, except you're going to a different store.

a double loop around the spool with a 5 wind improved clinch knot locks it tight. don't corrosion x or block the spool middle keep it dry.

There is no point in using a mono backing. It basically defeats the purpose of using spectra. Remember, we are trying to get line capacity out of our small reels. USE ELECTRICAL TAPE.

I personally hate the electrical tape or anything that covers the inner part of the spool. The sticky residue from the tape annoys me. What is one layer of thin mono going to do to the length? kill it by 5 yards??? Its a baitcaster if you are getting spooled on that then your are fishing way too small of gear. My HSTA has 140 yards of 30lb spectra on it with a short 15 foot topshot of mono.

Also if you read the powerpro manuals it says to start off with mono as the connection to the spool. I know most of you have personal preferences, so i just gave mine.
