Hello to all you guys in Internet land!
Our first full day of fishing with our annual Chip Gillette 3 day was quite a good one, considering how the offshore fishing has been lately. Bruce stopped the boat this morning that resulted in a handful of nice bluefin that are now chilling out in our fishholds. One very nice yellowfin was added to the mix at the stop to spice things up. Later in the afternoon, right after lunch, the yellowfin came out and played with us for consistant yellowfin action for the few hours. The yellowfin were of very nice grade, averaging around 40 pounds! A few elusive albacore and a few more bluefin were captured by our anglers. I'm still amazed at this quality of yellowfin on a three day this early in the season. Hopefully these beautiful creatures will want to play again with us tomorrow.
We finally have some pictures to show you guys and I hope ya'll enjoy them. The 2nd picture is of Greg Colazas hoisting one of the bluefin that was caught this morning with crew member Jesse doing the gaff work. The picture is of four anglers and their bent rods with some quality yellowfin at the end of the string. The 1st picture we have for you tonight is of Shogun crewmember Tommy Miles giving an assist to Mike Pontrelli with his nice Yellow Fin Tuna.
Fair winds and following seas,

I have to throw my two cents worth in. When we got on those yellowfin this afternoon they were biting nails!! Everyone had one on for the first half hour. The guys that went in the water with twenty pound immedatly were broke off. These fish were biting the fifty and sixty no problem. This is guadalupe size fish in the three day range and I am really excited. It has been about ten years since I have seen this grade of yellowfin in this volume offshore. So if you are comeing out with us in the near future, be prepared. Smaller two speeds work great, the use of fluorocarbon was not needed and good hooks such as Mutus in 3/0 or Mustad 94150 in 4/0.
Big Fish Happen,
Bruce A. Smith
Good luck Shogun!
Keep your crew and your anglers safe & happy!
May the fish gods always smile on you!
