The pending doom of the MLPA was too much for him to handle. First Charlie Davis, then Russ Izor, now Bill Poole. Thank you Bill for pioneering longe range fishing as we know it. Without you I would not have some of the best memories of my life fishing Benitos, Cedros, San Pablo Bay and the Loop. RIP.

Mr. Poole,
I was blessed to fish twice with you on the Cape Polaris. Those trips are etched in my mind forever. It was a pleasure to share the rail with you, your son,and the likes of Ray Duane,Dennis Bunker, and other great people on those trips. And despite you rarely seeing me afterwards, you always remembered my name.
Thank you for all you did for the sport, and your passengers. You are a Class Act and the epitome of a Gentlemans Gentleman. I will miss seeing you and Ingrid at the landing.
Rest well, for you have earned it!
Mine and Denise's condolences to your family and closest friends. May God comfort them and carry them through the days and nights ahead.

I was about 7 years old, the Excel had just been splashed (in fact it was still the Qualifier Excel) and my dad was looking for a 3 day trip on one of the smaller boats for us both to go on. Bill spotted us from across the tackle shop and asked us what kind of trip we were interested it, we mentioned a 3 day and he asked us if we ever thought about a 7 day trip instead. My dad, kind of embarrassed, mentioned we could only afford a 3 day at the most, to which Bill replied "tell you what, you pay your ticket and the kid can go for free" I spent 7 of the most memorable days of my life on that boat with my father, all due to the kindness of Mr. Poole. that was my first long range trip, but far from my last, and i have memories of my father who is now passed that i will remember forever.

I cannot think of a nicer thing for someone to do for two complete strangers. Bill was a class act and will be remembered fondly.
Wonderful story. Never had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Poole but from that, he sounds like a great human being.

I have been lucky enough these last 15 years to have fished on the Excel annually and to experience what I consider the best quality long range fishing available. Bill was an icon in this industry but one thing that stood out most was that he was always first and foremost a true gentleman. My condolances to Ingrid and the Poole family and to Betty and Kathy and the crew we have all lost a great man and a true friend.
RIP Bill.
