Bill Poole

First rode on Bills' original 65' Polaris in the late 50's. He was an extremely intense fisherman and always had one of the top scores in the fleet. In the early 60's, Bruce Barnes came on the scene with his 65' Qualifier. Thus became the start of a rivalry that appeared to be friendly since they became partners in buying one of the landings. Bill built an 80' Polaris and Bruce built an 85' Qualifier. Bill then built a 100' Polaris and Bill built a 105' Qualifier (Q105). This of course, help build a fleet of great long range boats that are still in use. Bill got the last word when he took over the 125' Excel. I split my fishing trips between the Polaris's and the Qualifiers. Bill was the most intense captain that I have ever ridden with. He would not let up until we caught fish. Now that I am going on long range trips, I know who to thank for the great experience it is---Bill Poole. RIP

Never met Mr. Poole, but was aware enough of his innumerable contributions to our sport. God Bless you Sir.

I never had a chance to fish with him but I did have the opportunity to meet him at the FHS, he was a really great individual and an icon to the sportfishing community. RIP Bill Poole and condolences to his family.

I had the privledge of meeting Bill 2 or 3 times when I was getting off the Excel from a multiday trip and he always had time to shake my hand a take a picture.

My prayers go out to his family and the Excel crew..

I was fortunate enough to have met and spent a 5 day trip with Bill as he trained a new Captin for the Excel in 2007, He was a real gentleman and he treated us like his friend. On the rail and in galley he was full of great stories and wisdom and was happy to share with all. What a great Fisherman!
He will be missed by all in the fishing community

God Bless
