I have had meetings inbound after announcing too. Yep, a charter boat, and that was after announcing and signaling. Maybe I should have had Slabhunter out there looking out for me... Quote:

I didn't really hope to gain anything, but get feedback.... I will repeat for the tenth time..... It just struck me as innappropriate that a guy 1/2 mile back would see the need to announce my arrival to the port.... he was way to far back to have depth perception to even know how close I was....
It would have been totally different if he was close enough to actually see where I was in relation to the hole, and I had not announced and he was right behind me to simply call out himself behind another sport vessel....
I was just venting to see what others thought.... I have mixed opinions, some think it was fine, others think it was ove zealous, but all think he meant well... No big deal....
This is a discussion board where people share experiences both good and bad.... Get feedback etc...
I also went side by side in the hole with Mariner about 5 years ago and it was a butt puckering moment to say the least.... announced I was inbound headed in and there he was coming out as I was committed to the hole... Had the coast guard come out after I had announced, I was able to turn out before I was committed, I contacted them on the radio to bitch at them and he told me they were responding to a call and didn't have time to announce...Sorry..
It happens, since when does a captain on another boat start taking responsibility for someone elses boat from a half mile back? That's my only bitch...

That typically gives you enough time to see a boat coming out the hole that hasn't announced before getting there, and also allows for a call back of a boat that was just starting out by the bridge. You have time to power down and wait without having to be right in front.
I've seen people make the call by the red can, and even further out, only to have boats waiting inside call back to see if they really were inbound.
As a side note, I was running back from picking my pots up on Friday and saw the same boat bottomfishing. Running close to WOT I thought it was BOE and veered right over to him only to realize it was another Ed Wing with a Honda outboard. Swung around him and kept on heading back to Depoe. He must have thought I was an ass for making a high speed swing around him. |

Try getting corked in that little dogleg by a charter boat on a minus tide .. now that is something to whine about. |
