So if I'm a "regular" going in and out of that entrance I would understand someone being extra careful and sending out the message. Looks the running of the buls in Pamplona. One way street at best.

Can we call you Woody for "short"

I don't see what you hope to gain here by venting this to us...

I have had meetings inbound after announcing too. Yep, a charter boat, and that was after announcing and signaling. Maybe I should have had Slabhunter out there looking out for me...

Woody for short is just fine......

I didn't really hope to gain anything, but get feedback.... I will repeat for the tenth time..... It just struck me as innappropriate that a guy 1/2 mile back would see the need to announce my arrival to the port.... he was way to far back to have depth perception to even know how close I was....

It would have been totally different if he was close enough to actually see where I was in relation to the hole, and I had not announced and he was right behind me to simply call out himself behind another sport vessel....

I was just venting to see what others thought.... I have mixed opinions, some think it was fine, others think it was ove zealous, but all think he meant well... No big deal....

This is a discussion board where people share experiences both good and bad.... Get feedback etc...

I also went side by side in the hole with Mariner about 5 years ago and it was a butt puckering moment to say the least.... announced I was inbound headed in and there he was coming out as I was committed to the hole... Had the coast guard come out after I had announced, I was able to turn out before I was committed, I contacted them on the radio to bitch at them and he told me they were responding to a call and didn't have time to announce...Sorry..

It happens, since when does a captain on another boat start taking responsibility for someone elses boat from a half mile back? That's my only bitch...

Easy now that kind of talk can lead to only more problems.
Everybody have a beer and try again later. By the way I think 43 posts on whether or not the guy was being nice or just trying to piss you off may answer the question.
Let it go and enjoy the sunshine.

Some of them were bantering with guys I know.....

If you don't like it don't read it... something compelled you to come back count my posts and a couple of times to run your mouth.

I think the customary practice is about half way from the red can to the hole. That typically gives you enough time to see a boat coming out the hole that hasn't announced before getting there, and also allows for a call back of a boat that was just starting out by the bridge. You have time to power down and wait without having to be right in front.

I've seen people make the call by the red can, and even further out, only to have boats waiting inside call back to see if they really were inbound.

As a side note, I was running back from picking my pots up on Friday and saw the same boat bottomfishing. Running close to WOT I thought it was BOE and veered right over to him only to realize it was another Ed Wing with a Honda outboard. Swung around him and kept on heading back to Depoe. He must have thought I was an ass for making a high speed swing around him.

That's what I figured Chad. I felt bad for a moment, then realized...... since the guy already thinks I'm an ass, I've got nothing to lose.

BTW- Your trip scheduled for tomorrow halibut fishing is back on. Bet those prissy white bibs of yours are stained brown before we hit 10 miles out.

Mike, Chad can hardly catch a cold this season non-the-less a halibut. Whatever you do don't let him touch the bait.

BTW, black bibs hide a lot of that type of action should it happen.

Go tell him

Maybe posting here is easier than talking to the guy. CH 80 is monitored by the Depoe bay fleet. Some of the charters do not blow a horn. And most of the casual trailer boaters don't know the procedure for running that harbor.

Try getting corked in that little dogleg by a charter boat on a minus tide .. now that is something to whine about.

Pretty much why I don't like that particular port. Just not my cup of tea. I'd rather battle what I can see. Just to small IMHO but to each his own.
