Making cedar plugs??

Anyone know where I can find a mold to make the heads of cedar plugs? I think I can find the brass nose and tail pieces, but that mold is eluding me. Keta?

if you find it, I have about 1000 hickory stubs that are just about the right size for lures.

I had a few pieces of Alaska white ceder I gave edsr (can't remember if BOE got any) that made very good cedar plugs, the grain was about as fine as you can find.

Puffin might be able to help too.

Yes,
The mold compresses the wood which makes for better action and longer casting distance.

My wife has a nice ceder chest at the end of our bed, that I kick at least once a week. Should be able to get a few plugs out of it.

I made a plaster mold using a store bought plug. It was easy. Just insert a wire all the way through the plug so it sticks out an inch or so. Place the plug in the stiff plaster head down and wait for it to dry enough to remove the plug and maintain the shape. A little oil on the plug helps. Make sure the mold is really dry before you use it or you will have spalling. It is not perfect, but it works. I place the wooden plug over the mold with the same wire passing through it and down into the mold. I pour the lead down through the plug until it fills the mold and a little bit of the plug. It takes practice, and isn't always pretty but it does work and is a fun thing to mess with during the wait for the TUNA. good luck
