No doubt Bodenmiller does a bang-up job of keeping dollars going in Gayabaldi, Depoe and Newport and other Ports South, all we get up here is B.S. talk about growing the quota as the pressure increases. If I had a boat that could trailer I might feel the same way.

We could always just run the Northern south.....just do it when the weather is better than when we moved her from Ballard.

That was the one and only time having a fat gut came in handy wedged between the wheel and the bench seat. Didn't need to hold on to anything.

Just wish Raulf O'Rorke hadn't had his Buick on board. How often do you cross the CR Bar in better water than the ocean? It was actually nice working in the engine room/bilge but having a breakdown on your bilge pump was not a good thing.

I have been out of this one for a while.
Keta, I agree the real kicker in SE is the non resident guides AND the cruise ship industry that has enabled the fleet down south of me to experience huge growth. This combined with a declining abundance is what has led both industries down the road to where they are. With that said, the commercial guys do have the deck stacked in their favor especially at IPHC. If you guys what some help at the IPHC meeting, look up Rex Murphy. He is on the NPFMC Advisory Panel and is probabaly the sharpest guy in Alaska on the Charter side of this deal. He will be at the meeting and I am sure he would be happy to talk to you guys.
I doubt you are going to lose allocation to 2C. I think they are going to face some nasty restrictions in the coming couple of years. This combined with the economy is going to cause some serious blood letting for my friends in 2C.
I just refinanced my boat under the NMFS loan program and shaved 3.5% off my interest rate. I am dropping down to 1 deckhand to no relief captain, just to try to weather this storm that it is coming. Hopefully when it all passes those of us who can survive it will have something decent......
On a more positive note, bookings seem fine for 2009.

Thanks for the name tip Andy, and your thoughts on the allocation split. Sorry Sarah didn't make it in. It would have been interesting to see someone in Washington with a clue about the problem with the NMFS, PFMC, NOAA, Tuna Commission and our Favorite IHPC stacked in favor of commercial interests rather than something a bit more equal handed. Not that her background was "sport" rather than commercial, but none the less, it would have been fun trying.

Boater

Great read, thanks

That guy is a danger to fisheries up and down the west coast. Thanks for the link.

its goofy whats going on anymore especialy those MR`s they want to setup all over the place, i veiw them as all about money, they are a perfect tool to jump start aquculture, close off mass area`s in the ocean for harvest of anything and soon there will be a fish shortage and soon after that aquculture will be a going concern, its all about money.
